Western Clothing: How to Dress Like a Cowboy

BY LAURENIN FASHION · WESTERN WEAR — 25 FEB, 2014 Imagine stepping out of the house with the swagger of a Western cowboy. The boots, the pants, the hat, the shirt: it all comes together to create one of the most iconic looks in American history. If you want to dress up like a cowboy, for a dance or party or just for an everyday fashion statement, the following tips will help you make sure your outfit is just right. Start off with the cowboy hat. Look for one in brown, black, or gray; or consider straw hats, fashionable during the summer, or wool felt hats, popular in winter. Once you’ve done this, dig out some jeans from your closet. Most pairs will do, but make sure they’re blue. Either a lighter blue, as in the picture above, or a darker blue will work just fine. The more faded and worn in, the better. If you don’t already have one, get your hands on a button-down shirt with breast pockets, either long-sleeved, short-sleeved, or sleeveless. The color is really up to you: plain, striped, or checkered are all great. Give it an iron and get rid of any wrinkles. Now onto the boots – it’s cowboy boots all the way here. Gray, brown, or black leather boots are all fine, but try to match them to your hat if you can. As an optional side, wear a bolo tie as well: you can’t get much more “cowboy” than that. Finish the look with a leather belt, ideally one that matches your boots and hat, and one that’s got an impressive silver buckle. If you can add your name to it, or just your initials, that’s ideal. So, there you have it. Classic Western clothing all put together into one of the most iconic ensembles of them all. So, are you a fan of the classic Western cowboy look?
