We are now only 2 days away from Christmas!
It’s nice to know that many of our favorite country singers will be taking part in some of the same traditions as us regular folks, like Keith Urban and Jason Aldean, who will be waiting up anxiously for a visit from Santa; Many other country crooners will be surrounded by family and friends, listening to Christmas songs, drinking eggnog and eating fruitcake.
But here are a few other country stars with their own unique traditions:
Miranda Lambert and her husband Blake Shelton enjoy the tradition of wrapping presents together. She says it started four years ago and now it’s a date night they each look forward to. They both admit that they prefer gift bags to actual wrapping paper.
Chris Young says his favorite holiday tradition is helping his brothers and sisters put up the Christmas tree at their parent’s house. Some of the homemade ornaments were made when his mom and dad were children and, of course, there are plenty of ugly ones that were made with macaroni and pipe cleaners when he and his siblings were still in elementary school. Each unique ornament has a story all its own.
Trisha Yearwood has an annual cookie party. She invites all of her girlfriends to the house and they all bake cookies. Her husband Garth Brooks enjoys taking the time to string lights around their house.
Sara Evans and her new husband Jay Barker have started a new tradition with their blended family of seven children. This year they are planning on opening the presents on Christmas morning and then indulging in a huge breakfast buffet.
Carrie Underwood says that, at her house, they eat themselves silly and try, of course, to remember the true meaning of Christmas and celebrate the birth of Jesus. Her mom always makes a broccoli cheese casserole because the vegetarian singer will not eat meat.
Brad Paisley insists on pulling out the DVD of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and watching it with his wife and two boys, Huck and Jasper, on Christmas Eve.
Julianne Hough’s favorite thing is to open Christmas cards. She especially likes the ones with pictures of the families, so she can see how all the children have grown over the year.
It will be like summer when Keith Urban celebrates Christmas in Australia with wife Nicole Kidman, daughter Sunday Rose and almost all of their extended family who live down under.
Country tidbits
Steve Earle will have a new album to share with his fans in the New Year. “Terraplane,” an 11-song record, will be released on his longtime label, New West Records, on Feb. 17.
